Reception

For our medium-term plans in Reception, we use our children's interests to, 'guide,' our in the moment and subsequent days and weeks planning, dependent upon the focus and how many children are interested in the same theme.

When children are playing and selecting what to do themselves, they become deeply engaged, a characteristic of effective learning we value and foster in our children. As practitioners we observe this and wait for a moment in which we can make a difference. We then interact with that child/ren, to 'teach,' the 'next step,' as appropriate for those children at that precise time. Every time we interact with a child, we are observing, assessing, planning for and responding to that child. These interactions are most important and powerful teaching moments which inform our provision.
