Our Learning

  • Curriculum by Year Group

At George Spicer Primary School, we aim to provide motivating first-hand experiences whilst encouraging children to build resilience, ambition and a lifelong love of learning. We aim to build on the wealth of knowledge and skills children already have when they arrive and are actively developing relationships with feeder nurseries through visits in the summer term and information sharing around a variety of subjects including, prospective parent tours.

We recognise that all children are unique, celebrating and welcoming differences within our school community is integral to our provision. Therefore, our curriculum is child centred following the interests and fascinations of the children in Reception. Our Reception overview, also found on this website, outlines our teaching and over-arching themes for each half term which run concurrently with the children’s interests.

High quality interactions are central to effective early years practice and ensuring all children make progress.  For these to be successful requires skilled adults. The team in Reception are skilled adults who makes interactions successful and support the children in their learning. We are enthusiastic in engaging the children in effective conversations during child-initiated activities helps children absorb new vocabulary, expand their knowledge and extend their thinking. Such quality interactions improve the outcomes for all children across the EYFS.

We are passionate about children leading and engrossing themselves in their learning. We need to embed a language of learning based upon the characteristics of effective learning; ‘Inspire, Empower, Improve,’ our whole school vision, enables children to understand and talk about their learning experiences.
