Our Learning

  • Science

At George Spicer, we teach science using the Collins Hub, Snap Science, this has a clear intent: for teachers to deliver a science curriculum which embodies a concept of science for all children as:

    • a body of knowledge which can explain the world around us
    • an approach to building upon that knowledge as it is acquired
    • as well as an awareness of the value and application of science in everyday life.

We inspire our pupils by using Snap Science. The National Curriculum requirements are covered over time and topics are sequenced carefully which means pupils can build their knowledge securely, and teachers have the subject knowledge and improved level of direction when planning to ensure that all children are given opportunities to access the science curriculum.

By using Snap Science, the most important subject knowledge the pupils need to learn is identified, returned to and built upon as the children progress through school. assessment informs teachers how much pupils know, how much they can remember and how much more they can explain/apply.

All pupils are provided with multiple opportunities in every lesson to practise, demonstrate and improve their oracy skills by using scientific vocabulary during the course of lessons and experiments.
