At George Spicer, we want all children to be inspired by the History and Geography so they are engaged in lessons and feel empowered to build connections with current and future learning. Through delivering the ‘Opening Worlds’ scheme pupils gain security in a rich and broad vocabulary. Words are carefully introduced and deliberately revisited throughout the units. Children will improve in their ability to make connections across not only the content they are studying but also in other historical and geographical areas as they move up through the school. Through our delivery of core knowledge and vocabulary, all pupils are given opportunities in every lesson to practise, demonstrate and improve their oracy skills; speaking in full sentences, using relevant historical or geographical vocabulary. This covers all areas of the National curriculum as well as delving deeper so that our children have access to an ambitious and fascinating curriculum that improved both their knowledge and their skills in both subjects.
