Our Learning

  • French

At George Spicer, we want pupils to be inspired by learning about the French language and want to have multiple opportunities to speak the language. Using and adapting the three-pillar approach, teachers are empowered to plan creative activities throughout, which support the learning of phonics, grammar and vocabulary. French lessons have clear and sequenced topics which embed the key skills and means pupils can build their knowledge securely across the four areas of speaking, listening, reading and writing.

The most important subject knowledge the pupils need to learn is identified and returned to within and between year groups. The National Curriculum requirements for Modern Foreign Languages are covered carefully over time and assessment shows how much more pupils know, how much more they can remember and how much more they can explain/apply.

All pupils are given opportunities in every lesson to practise, demonstrate and improve their oracy and listening skills by working in pairs, small groups and during whole class discussions in French.
