Our Learning

  • Maths

We want pupils to be inspired and empowered by the Mathematics curriculum at GSPS. Teachers plan and build in creative, ambitious and inclusive activities throughout.  The curriculum is sequenced as such so pupils can build on their knowledge to garner a deeper understanding and a mastery approach to any given strand of Mathematics.  Furthermore, the subject knowledge that the pupils need to learn has been identified and is regularly revisited to ensure consistent progress. The National Curriculum requirements are covered systematically, enabling teachers to deliver a deeper, richer and more ambitious Mathematics curriculum.  Pupils will become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics through varied and frequent practice with increasingly complex problems over time, so pupils develop conceptual understanding and can recall and apply knowledge with automaticity and efficiency. Pupils will reason mathematically and develop justification or proof using mathematical language and representations. Pupils learn to solve problems by applying mathematics to a variety of routine and non-routine contexts with increasing sophistication, including breaking down problems into a series of simpler steps to find a logical solution. All pupils are given opportunities in every lesson to practise, demonstrate and improve their oracy skills; speaking in full mathematical sentences and using relevant mathematical vocabulary where possible.
