Important Information

• Communication with Breakfast and After School club – Please email basc@georgespicer.enfield.sch.uk 
• Contact details - please ensure your contact phone numbers, addresses and email are up-to-date. Changes can be made using your Arbor parent portal or email the school office.
• Absences - must be reported in writing or by phone by 9am DAILY. Please leave a brief message with the child's name, class and the reason for their absence.  It will be recorded as unauthorised if you do not leave a reason or say your child is 'unwell'.  
• Medications/Returning after injury – If your child requires prescribed medication to be administered during the school day, or is returning after an injury and needs a risk assessment, please contact the school office the day before their return. This will allow us to prepare the necessary paperwork for you to sign at drop-off.

  Please note our Welfare Team operates from 10am, and the office is very busy managing visitors, late arrivals and other enquiries.

• Arbor Payment – ‘we are a cashless school’ – access to payment is via your Arbor parent portal and app. If your child attends Breakfast and After School Club please ensure that your account is paid in advance and up-to-date. 

• Labelling school uniform - please ensure that you label your child's school uniform.  Previously, we have accumulated so much lost property, if you label items they can be returned to the child/ren. 

• Year 6 walking home alone – If you would like your child to walk home alone please email office@georgespicer.enfield.sch.uk

• Year 6 mobile phone – Only children with permission to walk home alone are permitted to bring in mobile phones. NO SMARTPHONES

Tour Registration

To welcome our children back to school, the whole school have been reading and undertaking activities on the book, ‘Flower Block.’ It is a magical story all about the difference you can make when you get to know those around you. This glorious and uplifting story has been a perfect way for our school community to understand the power of nature and to set us up for the forthcoming academic year!

Today, Friday 11^th September, we were lucky enough to have the author, Lanisha Butterfield, to visit us at both sites. She took assemblies, read extracts of the book to the children and answered lots of questions that the children asked her.

We also had a sharing afternoon where year groups came together to talk about the book and celebrate what they have been working on this week.

Please enjoy the entries in this newsletter which show some of the wonderful work the children have produced. This weekend, ask your children what they enjoyed most about this book.

Year 1 

Year 1 have been inspired by Flower Block, a beautiful story that celebrates the power of nature to bring communities together. As part of our whole-school writing journey, the children immersed themselves in the magic of a fantasy garden. Through imaginative writing, colourful drawings and creative models, the children created flowers and gardens bursting with colour and beauty.  They captured a real sense of awe and wonder, thinking carefully about how their gardens might make people feel and how nature can bring joy to everyone.

It has been wonderful to see the children express their creativity and grow in confidence as they settled into their first week back at school.

  

  

Year 2 

Year 2 have had a fantastic start to the term exploring Flower Block by Lanisha Butterfield. The children were amazed to discover a garden centre in our school, which provided a wonderful opportunity to develop their vocabulary and use exciting adjectives to describe flowers and plants.

We also explored different pastel mediums and techniques before using our new skills to design and create our own beautiful flowers. It has been lovely to see the children’s creativity and enthusiasm blossom!

   

  

Year 3

Year 3 have made a great start to the new year, settling well into KS2 and adapting confidently to their new building. They have been reading ‘Flower Block’ by Lanisha Butterfield and exploring important themes such as community and belonging, linked to UNCRC Article 15 (setting up or joining groups). The children wrote letters of advice suggesting ways people can get involved in their community and worked collaboratively to design their own community gardens. Their creative ideas included cafés to encourage conversation, playgrounds where children can make friends, as well as memorial flower beds to help remember loved ones.

 

Year 4 

The Year 4 pupils have made a wonderful start to Year 4. We are astounded at how well they have settled in to the new routines and how quickly they have demonstrated positive learning behaviours, an enthusiasm for new knowledge and an awareness of the school community around them. With community in mind, we have hit the ground running by carrying out our first Writing topic of the year - "Flower Block" by Lanisha Butterfield. We have practised letter writing skills, using adverbs to give advice, we have also designed our own rooftop community garden, planted our own "magic" seeds and explored the themes in the story around community, belonging and working together towards a common goal. Through the story, we have seen how this can really inspire and galvanise people. 

We are incredibly proud of how the pupils in Year 4 have started the term and we look forward to many more adventures with them in the coming weeks and months! 

  

Year 6

Flower Block

It has been lovely to see the children settle in so well to their first week of Year 6. 

We, like the rest of the school, have been exploring the book Flower Block in our writing and art lessons this week. 

In Writing, we have focussed on using dialogue. The children had the opportunity to role-play the different characters, creating speech and actions. From this, we wrote dialogue in our books, focussing carefully on the rules of speech. 

In Art, we used a variety of sketching techniques to draw our very own sunflowers. The children had to think carefully about their spacing as well as their use of shading to create texture. We are so impressed with their resilience as they completed their drafts. The final outcomes proved that their focus paid off. 

   

National Read Aloud Challenge

This summer we took part in a National Read Aloud Challenge which was sent to you in July. Thank you to those who took part; we came second in Enfield being beaten by a secondary school! Keep reading, next year we are going to win!
