Reception

Arrrrr! This week the children have continued reading 'The Night Pirates'.  Last week they wrote a letter to the night pirates asking to join their crew, and the pirates said the children can join! We have been thinking about what makes a good pirate and what we would need to take with us to join the pirate adventure.  We have also completed lots of artwork such as pirate ships and sea creatures.

'I would take a sword so I can protect myself' - Kieran Poppy class

'I would bring a compass so I know which direction to go' - Caden Poppy class

'I would take a spade so I can dig for treasure' - Fiona Poppy class.

Year 1

This week in Year 1, we have begun our exciting new Maths topic on multiplication! Rather than jumping straight into number sentences, the children have been exploring the idea of arrays by arranging objects into equal rows and columns.

Using a range of manipulatives, including counters, cubes, buttons and other classroom resources, the children have been making and discussing different arrays. They have been learning that arrays help us see equal groups clearly and are a great way to build a strong understanding of multiplication before we begin using multiplication symbols and facts.

The children showed fantastic teamwork and mathematical thinking as they investigated different ways to represent the same numbers.

Year 2

This week in Year 2 was all about our spectacular end of year performances. The children knocked our socks off with their amazing class assemblies, showcasing some of the fantastic learning they have done this year. One of the highlights was our retelling of The Tadpole's Promise, one of our favourite books this year. We also loved showing off our Waves Artwork and Writing, performing some much-loved songs and even the Mary Poppins dance we learned in PE.

This week, we also finished our final book of the year, A Walk in London. We have learned so many interesting things about London while reading this book and used our knowledge to write our own leaflets about the sights and landmarks of Enfield. Here are some of our leaflets.

Year 3

Year 3: Science

This week in Science, Year 3 have been continuing their learning about the flowering plant life cycle. The children enjoyed observing how flowers slowly turn into fruits, and they were fascinated to see how much changes as a plant grows and develops.

Using careful observation skills, the children looked closely at different fruits and tried to identify the stem, seeds and ovary. They also talked about where each fruit had been attached to the plant. It was wonderful to see so many thoughtful questions and such brilliant scientific vocabulary being used.

The class showed real curiosity and enthusiasm throughout the activity, and they have been working hard to understand how flowering plants reproduce. Well done, Year 3, for your excellent learning and careful investigation!

Year 4

Writing:

This week in writing we began exploring our new text, Tutankhamun by Patricia Cleveland-Peck. We had an opportunity to become archaeologists and excavate artifacts from ancient Egypt. We then carried out further research about the lifestyle of the Ancient Egyptians.  We are excited to expand our knowledge on this fascinating civilisation over the next few weeks.

Science:

In science, we have been enjoying our topic on classifying plants and animals and practised using branching key using aliens. On Friday morning, we took a trip over to the sensory garden in Bush Hill Park to look for examples of wildlife and minibeasts to classify in our own branching keys.

Year 5

PE – Orienteering

This week in PE, the children took part in an exciting orienteering challenge. Working in mixed-class teams of four, they used their map-reading skills to navigate around the large playground in search of eleven hidden letters. Along the way, they demonstrated excellent teamwork, communication and problem-solving as they worked together to locate each letter. Once they had found them all, they had the challenge of unjumbling the letters to reveal a secret mystery word.

Ask your child if they managed to find the mystery word!

Year 6

Over the last two weeks, many of our Year 6 children have been away enjoying their residential visit to PGL. They had a fantastic time taking part in a wide range of adventurous activities, developing their teamwork, resilience and confidence, and making lots of wonderful memories with their friends.

Some of our children also visited Lee Valley, where they enjoyed an exciting day of kayaking and tackling the Water Wipeout course. It was a brilliant opportunity for them to challenge themselves, work together and have plenty of fun outdoors.

Back at school, we have continued making excellent progress with our Textiles project. The children have researched existing pencil cases before designing their own and have been practising a range of practical and decorative stitches, including whip stitch, blanket stitch, running stitch and back stitch. Over the next two weeks, they will begin decorating their pencil cases using felt and embroidery to bring their designs to life.

In Writing, we have continued our fairy tale unit. The children have planned their own stories using traditional fairy tale tropes and key characteristics of the genre, and they will be writing and refining their tales over the coming week.

Despite the hot weather, rehearsals for our production of The Lion King have continued with great enthusiasm. The children have shown incredible commitment and are excited to perform next week. If you have not already done so, please remember to send your child's costume into school as soon as possible.

We are looking forward to a very exciting week ahead and can't wait to share the children's hard work with you during the performances!

House Celebration Day 2026

On Friday 19th June, the entire school enjoyed a House Celebration Day. This was a wonderful opportunity for us to work and enjoy time within our House Team, as well as bring the whole school together from both sites. The day began with all children and staff getting organised into new class groups. We would stay in these groups for the entire day, mixing with pupils and staff from all over the school. We then took part in the mini-marathon and cheered each other on with pride, determination and passion. Due to the extreme heat, we decided to move the picnic indoors! We enjoyed having a packed lunch at Kimberley Gardens within our House Teams whilst catching up on some World Cup highlights!

The afternoon was full of design and creation within our House Teams. Each child made a clay medallion or sculpture of their House Shield design. The Key Stage Two children also carried out an engineering task - to see who could design and construct the tallest freestanding tower using unlikely materials such as newspaper and sticky tape! Here are some pictures of the incredible models and towers produced...

At Kimberley Gardens, the pupils celebrated being a proud Blue, Green, Yellow and Red House member by composing an acrostic poem aimed at showcasing the strengths of their House Team and the values it holds so dearly.

We rounded the day off with celebration assemblies at both sites, where children shared their astounding creations, Year 6 House Captains gave speeches about their time as a House Captain and teams chanted their House Mottos for the last time this year - they literally screamed the 'House' down!

Finally, here are the winners of the House song/rap competition - it was a really tricky competition to judge as all entries were so uniquely inspiring and artistic. We did however, eventually decide on a winner for each House...

- Blue House: Katie Collier (Istanbul)

- Red : Asher Merrit-Hall (Everest)

-Green : Aaron Hughes (Lagos)

-Yellow : Belkis Belba (Willow)

A massive thank you to all pupils and staff at George Spicer for making this day one of the most memorable days of the year!
