Parking

We would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to please utilise the car park located at Enfield Playing Fields, which can be accessed via Ladysmith Road. This facility is a short walk from the school gates and provides a safe parking option for all families.

We must emphasise that driving up Craddock Road for school drop-off and pick-up is unsafe and poses a risk to our children. Your cooperation in using the designated car park will help ensure the safety of all children and contribute to a more secure environment around the school.

Thank you for your continued support in keeping our community safe.

New Climbing Frame in KS1 Playground

Since returning from the Easter break the children have been enjoying the new climbing frame which was funded by FOGS.  They have demonstrated our four Bs by playing respectfully, safely and sensibly. The children have truly appreciated this addition to the playground.  The children have said:

‘Thank you for the climbing frame, so much, it is amazing.’

‘We all like the climbing frame.’

‘Thank you very much, we love it!’

‘It is so good – I love it!’

‘My favourite part is the swinging tyres bit.’

‘I love the rope ladder the best.’

‘I like the tyre bit because you can put your arms through it.’

Reception

In Reception we have been reading Oi Frog! by Kes Gray. It’s a fun, playful story all about rhyming words, using silly combinations like cat/mat and frog/log to help children hear and enjoy patterns in language, supporting their early reading skills. The children have been enjoying writing their own rhyming sentences and have written short rhyming stories.

Please speak to your child about rhyming words and see if you can think of your own rhyming sentences together.

Year 1

This week in Year 1, the children took part in an exciting immersion lesson based on our new Literacy Tree book Yeti and the Bird. During the lesson, we explored the theme of friendship and talked about what it means to be a kind and supportive friend. The children shared thoughtful ideas about how to care for others, listen, and include everyone. They then applied their learning by writing messages to the Yeti, explaining what makes a good friend.

Year 2

It has been an exciting two weeks in Year 2. Last week, all of the Year 2 classes went on a litter walk. We were looking to see how much litter could be found along Sketty Road, Ladysmith Road and the park path that runs alongside the allotments. We found a surprising amount!

The park path had the most, with over 100 pieces of litter spotted along the route. Sketty Road came a close second with around 75 pieces, while Ladysmith Road was actually very tidy with fewer than 20. The children were shocked by how much rubbish there was and agreed that Enfield Council should consider adding more bins in our local area, especially along the park path.

This week, we had some lovely scaly and slimy visitors in Year 2. Zoolab came to visit, bringing with them a selection of exotic creatures. We learned about their life cycles and how many eggs they lay. Did you know that cockroaches can run through fire and survive?

The children were very excited to meet the animals and thoroughly enjoyed looking at, learning about and even handling them. A big thank you to Zoolab for a wonderful workshop!

Year 3

Year 3: Science- Flowering plants and plant growth experiment

This week, Year 3 have been actively engaged in their science lessons, focusing on flowering plants and plant growth. They have been honing their observation skills by meticulously noting their findings at the start of an exciting experiment. They are investigating the effects of leaves on plant growth by monitoring three different plants over the next two weeks: one with an abundance of leaves, another with a few leaves, and a third with no leaves at all. We encourage you to ask your Year 3 children how they ensured that their experiment is a fair test. What do you predict the plants will look like at the end of the experiment? Check back in a couple of weeks to see.

Year 4

Last Wednesday and Thursday Year 4 went on a trip to the Enfield Nagapooshani Ambaal Temple, a Hindu Temple that is local to the school. They all represented the school brilliantly and demonstrated all of our 4 Be's and school values throughout the trip. We learnt that in Hinduism, the acronym G.O.D. is often used to represent the three main functions of the Supreme Being as the Generator, Operator, and Destroyer. We were also given an opportunity to take part in a Hindu ritual of pouring water while saying a prayer or making a wish. a child in Thames class, even brought bananas as an offering, which is a Hindu tradition.

Year 5

Year 5 have been thoroughly enjoying their Design and Technology learning this term, where they have been busy creating their own moving toys. As part of this project, the children explored cam mechanisms and learned that these systems are made up of three key components: a cam, a slider, and a follower. They learnt how these parts work together to create movement and were able to decide exactly what they wanted their moving part to be—how cool are their ideas!

Working collaboratively in groups, the children showed great enthusiasm and creativity as they designed and built their mechanisms. It was fantastic to see their teamwork and problem-solving skills in action. Once their toys were complete, the children evaluated both their models and final pieces. One group thoughtfully reflected that next time they would consider the weight of their tree more carefully, as they were concerned it might pull down their monkey. A brilliant example of learning through reflection!

Year 6

We are currently teaching the Year 6 science topic on the human circulatory system, with a focus on the heart and how it works. The children have been learning how the heart acts as a pump, moving oxygenated and deoxygenated blood around the body through blood vessels. Alongside this, we are also hard at work preparing for the upcoming SATs, and the children are showing great focus and determination in their learning. Pictured below are the clay models the children created in small groups, which helped them to explore and understand the structure of the heart and how blood is transported around the body.

Sporting Events

Tuesday 21st April – Girls’ Football Matches

This marked our final round of league fixtures for the season. The girls have been outstanding in all their matches so far, sitting joint top of the league! Their first match showcased excellent teamwork and confident passing, leading to a well-earned 3-0 victory.

With the league title on the line, the final game was a true test. The girls started strong, taking a deserved 1–0 lead against St George’s. However, their opponents responded just before half-time, levelling the score. Despite continued positivity and determined attacking play, we were caught on the break while pushing for a second goal and St George’s extended their lead. The final score of 3–1 doesn’t reflect the effort, determination and spirit shown by the team. They should be incredibly proud – what a season it’s been. Roll on next year!

Friday 24th April – Multi-Sports Event

Twelve enthusiastic Key Stage 2 girls represented us brilliantly at a multi-sports event at Southgate Hockey Club. From start to finish, they embodied our George Spicer values - showing resilience in challenging activities, working as a team and encouraging one another throughout.

They were praised by other staff for their excellent listening skills and the energy they brought to every event. It was a fantastic morning enjoyed by all and we’re excited for more opportunities like this over the summer.
