Measles Outbreak in Enfield: A Call for Vigilance and Vaccination
Enfield is currently experiencing a measles outbreak, with cases predominantly affecting children under 10. This highly contagious disease underscores the critical importance of vaccination.
Current Vaccination Rates
As of the 2024/25 period, only 64.3% of five-year-olds in Enfield have received both doses of the MMR vaccine, significantly below the World Health Organisation's recommended threshold of 95% for herd immunity. (the-independent.com)
Implications for Our School Community
The low vaccination rate in Enfield increases the risk of measles transmission within our school. Unvaccinated pupils are particularly vulnerable, and outbreaks can lead to significant health complications. There is a serious case in a school very close to our own.
Our Commitment to Health and Safety
At George Spicer Primary School, we are dedicated to the well-being of our pupils and staff. We encourage all families to ensure their children are up-to-date with the MMR vaccination schedule. For guidance on vaccination, please consult your GP or local health services.
