Punctuality Reminder: We continue to see a high number of children arriving late to school, so we would like to remind families of our morning start times.

Our school gates open at 8:45am for a soft start. This gives children time to settle into their classrooms and be ready to begin learning promptly at 9:00am.

  • Children arriving between 9:00am and 9:10am will be marked as Late.
  • Children arriving after 9:10am, when registers close, will be recorded as an Unauthorised Late, which is counted as missing the morning session.

Arriving on time helps children start the day calmly, supports learning, and reduces disruption for everyone.

Thank you for your continued support in helping your child arrive at school on time.

Lost Property: There is a mountain of lost property. Please can you ensure that ALL your child's property is labelled so, if found, it can be returned to your child.

Reception

This week Reception came back to their classrooms after lunch to discover that something had happened!! The children thought a rocket had crashed into the classroom.  In the debris, we found something wrapped in shiny foil. It was a book called 'Look up'.  We began reading the story and found out it was about a little girl called Rocket who wants to be an astronaut when she grows up.  The children thought about what job they want to do when they are older.  This also links with our PSHE topic for this half-term, 'Dreams and goals'.

'I want to be a racing car driver because I like to go fast,' M Poppy Class.

'I want to be an artist because I like to paint' P Poppy Class.

'I want to be a lifeguard so I can rescue people' R Poppy Class.

Year 1

Stereotypes Week in Year 1

Last week, our school explored the theme of stereotypes and challenged common assumptions. We began with a thought-provoking question: “Is ballet for girls?” The vote was split 50/50, showing just how divided opinions can be. Throughout the week, pupils examined different stereotypes in society and discussed how they can be unfair or limiting. To finish the week, the children voted again, with the vast majority agreeing that ballet is for everyone, regardless of gender.  Students then created eye-catching posters about ballet.  It was a fantastic week of discussion, creativity, and learning that encouraged pupils to think more openly and respectfully about others.

Year 2

Year 2 have had a productive start to Spring Term. Last week was Stereotypes week, and we were reading the book My Shadow is Pink. We drew around our own bodies and wrote what our true shadows like to do.

In Science this week we have been learning about the similarities and differences between seeds and bulbs. Last week we planted a bean seed. Each week we are recording its growth and development in our seed diary. We were excited to see our seeds had sprouted roots and shoots.

Year 3

Science- Forces

The Year 3s have dived into an exciting Science topic on Forces! We’ve been experimenting with pushing and pulling forces, discovering the various ways we can move small objects around our classroom. The children have engaged in lively discussions about contact forces and have created wonderful diagrams illustrating the forces acting upon different objects, including the direction in which they are applied. It’s been fantastic to see their enthusiasm and creativity shine through as they explore these fundamental concepts. We look forward to more hands-on learning in the weeks to come!

Year 4

This week, Year 4 have been hard at work designing and creating their very own flying inventions as part of their Design and Technology learning. Their inspiration came from the beautifully illustrated book Farther, a moving story in which a father dreams of building a flying machine but is sent to war before completing it. Years later, his son picks up where he left off, determined to fulfil his father’s dream and finally bring the invention to life.

Using this heartfelt tale as a springboard, the children sketched, planned and built their own prototype flying models. Once their creations were complete, they applied their instructional writing skills to produce clear, step-by-step guides explaining exactly how to fly their unique machines.

It has been wonderful to see their creativity, imagination and technical thinking soar! Year 4 should feel incredibly proud of their hard work and inventive ideas.

Year 5

Year 5 have based their writing around Shakespeare’s, The Tempest. They have linked the characters and identified their traits; written character descriptions, using relative clauses; produced dialogue, and have successfully acted out their scenes.

The children wrote and performed their own missing scenes for Prospero and Miranda.

The children hast discovered a whole new language, and are now besotted with the plot. It hast been a little tricky at times, however, thou will not givest up, thou shalt go henceforth!

Year 6

This half-term in Year 6, we will be studying The Arrival by Shaun Tan as part of our writing unit. This powerful book contains no written language, which allows the children to experience what it might feel like to arrive in a new country without understanding the language. Through this, the children explore feelings of alienation, confusion and resilience, helping them to build empathy and a deeper understanding of others' experiences.

So far, the children have engaged exceptionally well with the text. They have been developing their use of precise adjectives and ambitious verbs, and practising writing from different characters' points of view to convey emotions and atmosphere effectively.

We are very proud of the enthusiasm, thoughtfulness and creativity the children have shown, and we look forward to building on these skills throughout the next half-term.
