Reception

This week Reception posted their letters to Father Christmas. We went on a walk to the local post box and enjoyed singing a few Christmas songs before walking back to school. The children enjoyed the purposeful visit to the post box, as they were able to experience how their letter began its journey to the North Pole.

Year 1

This week in Maths, Year 1 have been learning to measure objects using cubes. The children have explored using the terms longer, shorter and taller to compare objects. We have also enjoyed creating something special in D&T this week which the children are really excited about decorating. We cannot wait to show you the finished product at the end of term.

Year 2

It has been a practical and fun week in Year 2.  In D&T this week we have been making salads. We tried lots of different salad ingredients to see which ones we liked, and then we designed our salad with our favourite foods in. Then we made the salad using different techniques like slicing, chopping and grating. Lastly, we tried out our salads and evaluated them to decide if we had done a good job. We thought they were very tasty.

In RW we have been learning about the Jewish festival Hannukah. One way Jewish people celebrate and enjoy Hannukah together is by playing dreidel games. We played dreidel games and made our own dreidels from paper.

In Science, we are learning about materials. We looked at the different materials that were used to make houses in the story of the Three Little Pigs to decide which materials are fit for purpose. We really enjoyed making houses of paper, sticks and bricks. It was tricky but we managed to do it. The Lego brick house was the most successful because it was strong, durable and waterproof!

Year 3

Geography - Exploring mountain ranges.

This week, our Year 3 students have been delving into the fascinating world of mountain ranges! We’ve been enhancing our skills by labelling various topographical features on maps, using a key to guide us along the way. The children have shown great enthusiasm as they describe the positions of different mountain ranges in relation to one another, employing geographical language with confidence. It’s wonderful to see their understanding grow as they engage with the surrounding landscape. Keep up the fantastic work, Year 3!

Year 4

Year 4 has experienced another busy fortnight of activities. Amazon and Nile students enjoyed their trip to the magnificent Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. One pupil exclaimed: "We heard the echo - it was so clear, the stadium is huge and keeps the sound in!" Mrs Hember was incredibly impressed by the way the pupils behaved, representing the school with flying colours.

We have also embarked on our new topic in Science - Electricity. The children have enjoyed exploring and investigating with bulbs, batteries, wires and switches.  They have been thinking scientifically about how and why circuits work and what affects the flow of electrical current around the circuit. Children have been learning how to write diagrams with the correct scientific symbols.

This week we have carried out a variety of assessments, and we are incredibly proud of how well the children have coped with

What has been a mentally taxing week. The pupils from Year 4 have demonstrated superb skills of perseverance, resilience and problem-solving over the week. We are looking forward to the Winter Fayre as a way of capping off and celebrating a productive week of learning!

Year 5

Last Thursday, Year 5 visited the Cemevi in Wood Green, where they received a warm welcome from the Alevi community. In their holy place, we noticed a window with a number of different religious symbols, showing a great respect for other religions.

Year 5 listened to the saz player and joined in with the semah dance. The children had time to listen to the speaker and ask a range of questions. They found out Alevis have a festival at the beginning of June, which is held in Enfield; they sort out any disagreements in the Cemevi and Alevis do not kill for sport.

Year 6

Our Year 6 pupils have continued their work inspired by The Promise by Nicola Davies. Having already explored the themes and messages within the book earlier this term, the children have now moved on to experimenting with a range of poetic devices, including alliteration, personification and similes. They explored how these techniques can be used for effect and practised applying them in their own writing.

Building on their understanding of the original narrative, the children have begun adapting the story to create imaginative sequels in the form of narrative poems. They are currently drafting their pieces, making thoughtful choices about language, mood and structure while using poetic devices confidently to bring their ideas to life. We have shared some photos showing the start of this work, and the children will continue developing their poems over the next couple of weeks. Once complete, the final poems will be published for display, and we look forward to celebrating their fantastic efforts with you.

Year 2 Clay Club

Over the past 10 weeks in Clay Club, our Year 2 children have truly honed their creative and crafting skills. This week, their newly acquired abilities, creativity, and individuality shone brightly as they crafted festive snowmen. It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm and talent flourish. Well done, children!

Parliament Week

George Spicer took part in the recent Parliament week 2025 (24-30 November), in which each year group completed an activity linked to Parliament. The children debated, petitioned, surveyed and voted, linking their work to the UNCRC Article 4, making rights real, as well as many others articles.

Here are some examples:

Year 4 – For and against debate on whether Youtube or TV is best. This was a very enthusiastic discussion!

Year 5 – Playing the Petition Game. They learnt how important it is for their voices to be heard and how they can be change makers, too. They shared with everyone how passionate they are about a range of issues and what they would campaign for.
