George Spicer Bulletin - 17/10/2025
As we move into the final week of the first half of the Autumn Term, amidst the tensions and uncertainties we see in wider society, I’ve found myself reflecting on one of the fundamental purposes of our school: to provide a genuine sense of belonging. Schools are not only places of learning; they are communities where young people feel known, valued, and connected. That feeling of empowerment and belonging is what underpins confidence, curiosity, and the willingness to take on new challenges, leading to happiness and fulfilment.
Just as we want our pupils to feel a sense of belonging within school, we also want them to feel connected to the wider community of Enfield. We have recently celebrated our annual Harvest Festival and in keeping with tradition, pupils and staff have generously donated food items which will be distributed to local food banks, supporting families within our community. Any final donations will be gratefully received – thank you for your generosity. Events like this remind our young people that belonging extends beyond the school gates, it’s about contributing, showing kindness, and recognising our place in the wider world.
We are beginning our tours for prospective families, and it is our pupils who continue to be the best advertisement for George Spicer. The Year 6 Ambassadors spoke so well and passionately about their time here in the first talk. However, there is nothing more powerful than seeing young people who hold doors open for others, say “please” and “thank you” naturally, and move calmly through quiet, purposeful corridors. These daily moments, in classrooms, on trips, on the sports field, music events, drama and art reflect a community where the children feel they truly belong.
One of our aims with the House System and events is to foster a greater sense of belonging within school and I can tell you the children have be showing great efforts and demonstrating our 4 Behaviour Be’s (why don’t you ask the children what they are) and the house point total update for Autumn 1 is:
Green – 1515
Red – 1667
Yellow – 1678
Blue - 1873
It has been truly inspiring to see so many adults actively participating in our workshops, class assemblies, and sporting fixtures this half-term. This involvement not only strengthens the partnership between home and school but also directly benefits our pupils by boosting their confidence, motivation, and sense of belonging. When adults engage with our school community, it empowers pupils to embrace their unique identities and develop resilience and determination—key values at George Spicer. Your presence helps create a supportive environment where pupils feel valued and inspired to learn well today to live a better tomorrow.
