Reception

Reception: Visits from a doctor and dinosaurs!

Last week we had a visit from one of our Reception parents. Dr Ami came in to talk about our bodies and the exciting equipment that is used daily by doctors. It was exciting and filled with lots of information that the children used when role-playing back in their classrooms.

This week we had a visit from Jam and friends from Teach Rex. Jam is a T-rex and the children had a great time sneaking around him and playing hide and seek with his food. We also had a chance to hold a baby dinosaur and even act out a movie scene using a green screen. Overall, the children were buzzing with excitement, which could be felt throughout the whole week.

Year 1

Year 1 have been looking at signs of Summer and comparing the different Autumn, Spring, and Winter. The children were able to explain the difference between the seasons and went on a Summer walk around the meadow.

Reggie - In the Autumn time the leaves turn brown but in the Summer the leaves are green.

Ivana - ‘The spring time baby animals are born and daffodils grow but in the Winter the animals hibernate.’

Talk to your child about the different seasons and what they know.

Year 2

This week in Science we have been learning about the effects of pushing, pulling, squashing and bending. To explore this we learned about the inventor of plasticine, William Harbutt and how he wanted to create a material for sculptors that would not dry so fast. We then made our own version of plasticine and used this to mould and sculpt our own models.

Year 3

Year 3 have been introduced to a new text as a part of their writing journey this term the book they are reading is called – The Thames and Tide Club by Katya Balen.

As part of their immersion activity, the children had to open a mysterious envelope. To their surprise, it was filled with lots of unusual items and treasures that could be found washed up from sea. This included a sparkly ring, a seashell, scales, a golden bracelet, a brass bracelet and much more. This gave the children the opportunity to experience what mudlarks collect when mudlarking, just like the main character Clem in the story. It also allowed the children to work effectively to create noun phrases to describe the items found.

Year 4

Year 4 Times Tables Champions!

Year 4 have been working incredibly hard to learn and recall all of their times tables. Their dedication isn't just in preparation for the national Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) that takes place in the summer term, but also because a strong knowledge of multiplication – and the corresponding division facts – supports so many other areas of maths.

To help each other succeed, the children have been playing fun and engaging games, battling it out on Times Tables Rockstars and Sumdog, and working together as a class to beat the timer on Hit the Button. Their enthusiasm and teamwork have been fantastic to see.

We are so proud of their efforts and the progress they’re making – keep up the great work, Year 4!

Year 5

Firstly, a massive well-done to our amazing Year 5 pupils; for their hard work and commitment to the assessments this week. We appreciate how demanding they can be, but you can be proud of how well you have done, despite some tricky papers!

In Writing we have been busy creating dialogue and actions scenes for our current topic: Beowulf, a version by Michael Morpurgo. The children have used historical language, adverbials and concrete/abstract noun phrases to devastating effect. This has made their writing enthralling to read and authentic for the era and genre.

In Science, we have been learning about the life-cycles of different animal and plant species. We have learnt lots of new scientific vocabulary, such as: metamorphosis, pupae, chrysalis, larvae, embryo and incubation! We have also learnt about the importance of scientific diagrams and how they help us to understand processes effectively.

Year 6

Year 6 have been working on an exciting Art project focused on manga, a style of Japanese comic art known for its bold lines, expressive characters, and imaginative storytelling. Pupils began by learning about the history and features of manga, then moved on to designing their own unique characters. They considered personality, costume design, and expression before developing short storyboards to bring their creations to life. This cross-curricular project encouraged creativity, storytelling, and attention to detail. The final outcomes were impressive, with a wide variety of styles and ideas on display. Well done to our talented young artists and storytellers!
