Reception

Daffodill and Poppy class have welcomed the Reception cohort this week. The children have been getting busy and exploring the classrooms and outdoor area. We have been singing songs to help us learn each other's names and settling into new routines. Well done Reception, you have had a great first week!

Year 1

The Year 1 children have settled in very well, and have been working hard in their first couple of weeks back. The children have been learning about counting out an amount and matching an amount to a number.

Amaya- ‘I have 10 and I add one more I have 11.’

Evie- ‘I have 12 and I add one more it  is 13.’

Year 2

Year 2 have settled well into their new classes this year, and are showing great enthusiasm!  This week they have enjoyed learning about 3D shapes in Maths, and have used the properties of shape to answer reasoning questions.  As part of our Writing lessons, they have been sequencing the story of ‘Goldilocks’ and created a wanted poster using adjectives to describe what she has done and what to do if they see her.  In Art, the pupils have been exploring texture.  They have taken rubbings of different textures and identified vocabulary that helps them to describe the wide range they discovered.

Year 3

In Year 3, we’ve had a brilliant time learning about the journey of the River Indus. The children annotated their own maps, tracing its path all the way from its source high in the Himalayan mountain range in Tibet, through India and Pakistan, before it finally reaches the Arabian Sea. Along the way, we discovered how the Indus provides water for farming, supports wildlife and helped ancient civilisations like the Indus Valley to grow.

Year 4

We are delighted to report on what has been an incredible start to Year 4. We have been impressed at how maturely the children in Year 4 have begun the year. It's never easy adapting to new surroundings, new teachers and new expectations, but our new learners have shown: resilience, responsibility, a positive mindset and enthusiastic teamwork already! The classes have enjoyed PSHE lessons, understanding how they fit within the world around them. They have also worked hard grasping new concepts and practising new skills within English, Reading and Maths. We are excited about the new academic year and the enjoyable times ahead.

Our first Writing topic revolves around the story of Tar Beach by Faith Ringgold. This week we have been exploring what 'Freedom is to us', as well as creating compound sentences using conjunctions and modal verbs to express our thoughts and feelings. We have also created freeze-frames, putting ourselves into the shoes of the main character, who is awestruck as they 'fly' over New York City!

We have been reminding ourselves of the 4Be's, and we have carried out activities linked to being supportive classmates, enthusiastic learners and globally conscious citizens. We have enjoyed getting to know one another and setting expectations for the year.

Year 5

We are incredibly proud of the fantastic start Year 5 have had this academic year! They are already showing great responsibility towards their learning and are being sensible members of the community. In particular, they have shown incredible enthusiasm towards our writing topic based on the book ‘The Man Between the Towers’ by Mordicai Gerstein – in which we are learning about the dangerous yet breathtaking feat that Philippe Petit underwent! Students have been using modal verbs and subordinating conjunctions to send emails of advice to Petit as part of his safety team, explaining what steps he should take to ensure he completes his task safely whilst still inspiring others.

Year 5 have also started learning about the Roman Republic in history, understanding the story of Romulus and Remus and how this legend influenced the beginnings of the city of Rome. Students were particularly shocked to hear how Romulus constructed a cunning plan to ensure Roman civilisation was able to continue!

Year 6

Year 6 have had a visit from a Shakespeare workshop. Two actors helped them re-create the story of Romeo and Juliet where each student got a chance to re-enact different scenes from the 400 year old masterpiece. They were encouraged to think about how characters may have felt during different scenes and what may have motivated their actions. Nefeli in Istanbul said, 'It was interesting to learn how such an old play can still be relevant today.' Over the next half-term, Year 6 will now be completing writing based around the play.

Message from Enfield Council

Enfield Council has asked us to share the following information:

Enfield Council is proposing to introduce 20mph speed limits on residential streets and roads in town centres — part of our wider plan to make the borough safer, cleaner and greener for everyone. Speed was a contributing factor to 61% of recorded injury-related collisions in Enfield over the past 5 years. Evidence shows that lower speed limits reduces the number of accidents and makes everyone feel safer in their local areas.

We want your views on our 20mph proposals. Your feedback will help shape how we roll out these changes to benefit the whole community. Find out more and take the survey at https://letstalk.enfield.gov.uk/20mph by Sunday 21 September 2025.

Rugby club

Enfield Ignatians rugby club provides coaching and competitive rugby for ages 5–12. Training sessions are 9:30-10:30 on Sundays in Enfield Playing Fields EN1 3PL.
