Reports to Parents and Consultation Evenings

This year pupil reports will be sent home via email during the week of 12th July.  This will then be followed by 2 evenings of Parents Consultation meetings on Thursday 15th & Monday 19th July.  These evenings will be an opportunity for you to meet with your child’s teacher in person to discuss their report and view their books.

A link to make an appointment via Teachers2parents has now been sent by text and email to all 1st contacts on Wednesday 26th May at 10am.  We request that parents attend the same meeting for their child; however, if that is not possible and you have not received a link, please contact Mrs Atkinson via office@georgespicer.enfield.sch.uk.  An update will be sent nearer the time to ensure that current government guidelines are being adhered to.

Autumn Term Breakfast & After School Club bookings are now live

We’re delighted that the children are returning to the Breakfast & After School Clubs (BASC), which not only supports parents and carers with wrap around care, but the children love playing with their friends outside of the school day.

We are now taking bookings for the Autumn term. Please click BASC Registration Form   with the days of the week and the sessions (AM and/or PM) that you need. In line with our BASC Policy, all payments must be made at least 2 weeks in advance together with any requests to change days or cancel your child’s place(s).

Places are limited due to hall space and staffing ratios, so we will be closing bookings on Wednesday 30th June.

Any queries, you can contact the BASC team via the Office email.

Scholastic

Our online scholastic book 'store' is still available here Scholastic until 6th June.

Every £1 you spend = 20p for our school in Scholastic Rewards.

Reception Class - 'Growing' topic

As Reception continues our ‘Growing’ topic, we have had some exciting developments in our classrooms! The runner beans that we have planted have begun to sprout roots and shoots, some are growing uncontrollably and have had to be re planted! We read the story of ‘Oliver’s Vegetables,’ and learnt all about a variety of vegetables including different ways to cook them. Finally, as our class caterpillars are growing and getting ready to go into their cocoons, we arrived in school to find a very hungry caterpillar in Bluebell Class.

Year 5 - Book swap

Year 5 enjoyed their book swap last Friday. There were so many books that every child was able to take a book home. We hope you enjoy reading them and thank you all for donating books and participating in this brilliant project!

Year 5 - Science

In science we have been looking at how plants reproduce. We took a cutting from a potato last week and planted them. They have started growing. We are all really excited to re-pot the plants once they grow a bit more and hopefully we will have some potatoes to eat!

Year 6 - Space topic

In their Space topic, Year 6 have been learning all about the Planets. In groups, they were given one planet to make, using papier-mache, and learn about. The children have thought of interesting ways they can present the facts they researched whether this be via a booklet or a leaflet. Each group has a slightly different presentation format and thought about how to engage the reader.

Buddy Benches

As part of Wellbeing at George Spicer, we have purchased 'buddy benches' for the children, which they love to sit on and chat to friends at break times.

Miss Grant’s Reading Challenge

Hope you all enjoyed your extreme reading challenge!

This week’s challenge is to visit a library during half term and sign up. A library is a great place to borrow books, you can choose your favourites or choose new books to enjoy.  Please send any photos of you in the library to primrose@georgespcier.enfield.sch.uk

Children’s Recommendations

Reception

Primrose – Finley – The Runaway Pea by Kjartan Poskitt. My favourite part was when the pea got in the sauce ‘Splat’. I like when the peas bottom was on fire. He makes new peas by shooting out shoots.

Daffodil – Harris – Bumblebear by Nadia Shireen – Amelia is my favourite, she is a clever bee. He dresses up like a bee and I like dressing up too. He scares away the big bad bear and he gets to go back to bee school.

Bluebell – Matty – An Anthology of Intriguing Animals by Ben Hoare – This is my favourite book as it has lots of information and lots of animals in it. It is full of facts. I like non-fiction books. I like the ostriches as they can run fast.

Snowdrop – Ruby – Cinderella by Walt Disney – I like the bit where the animals make her dress. The animals are my favourite. They help her to figure out how to find the key. They go to the ball and she loses her shoe. I like the fairy godmother. I like helping people too.

Year 1

Willow Class – Emmanuel – Wolly Jumper the Story of Wool by Meredith Hooper. I like it because it has sheep in it and because it tells you about making.

Elm Class –. Joshua - Colors of Us by Karen Katz. My favourite part is all of the painting and the story at the end. We are all beautiful, everyone is equal.

Oak Class – Vivaan – Monkey and the Little One by Claire Alexander – I like that it has a little mouse. I like that they became friends at the end. My favourite character is the mouse and the monkey because they become friends.

Ash Class –.Amazing Life Cycles - Plants by Honor Head.

Maria – I like looking at the animals in the book.

Ben – I like the book because it tells me real information about creatures.

Year 2

Sparrow Class – Noah - Georgia O’Keefe by Isabel Sanchez Vegara – I like Georgia O’Keefe because she was a brilliant artist. I thought year 2 would really like it because we’ve been focusing on non-fiction texts.

Owl Class – Jaiden – The BFG by Roald Dahl. I like this book because I like the magic potions. My favourite character is the BFG. Read this book if you want to find out about potions.

Robin Class – James – The Famous Five by Enid Blyton. I like this book because it is funny and has lots of twists and turns! My favourite character is Timmy because he always saves the day. Read this book if you like adventure.

Woodpecker Class – Thomas - 1001 Animals to Spot by Gillian Doherty .  I like this book because you can learn about lots of animals. If you read this book, you will find out about lots of different habitats.

Year 3

Cheyenne Class - Zoe - Code Name Bananas by David Walliams. It is one of funniest books I have read. It is funny because in my favourite page a boy called Eric put a gorilla in a push chair so he could take it on the train with him. I also recommend the book because it is about a boy whose life is full of adventure, he goes on a mission to stop an evil captain. Hope you like it.

Sulaiman- Little Dinosaur - This book teaches you that size doesn’t matter, it’s what’s inside that counts.

Kelechi- Percy Jackson - Greek methodology, you learn a lot about different mythical creatures.

Dane-Harry Potter - Great description and magical story line.

Oliver- Fing - Funny story line and great characters.

 Year 5

Ra Class- Ethan - The Magic Misfits by Neil Harris. I like the book because it has a great storyline and it teaches you about magic trick. Carter is my favourite character in the book because he is adventurous and he is the main character. I think this book is suitable for everyone to read especially people who like magic.

Thoth Class - Elias – Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone by J.K Rowling. I would recommend this book because it is adventurous and there is lots of fantasy. It's full of mystery and is very intriguing. People who are into fantasy, magic and adventure would love this book.

 Year 6

Hurricanes Class - Luca - A series of unfortunate events by Daniel Handler and Brett Helquist. This book was a mystery and the characters when faced with evil are very resourceful. I also like how there are twists in this book. Klaus is my favourite character as he reads a lot of books, which I think is great. He is also very intelligent and polite. I recommend this book to someone that likes adventure, the evil villains and tricky events that are usually unfortunate events.

Lancasters Class - Ellis – Holes by Louis Sachar. I like this book because of its plot and the way it manipulates someone's mind. At the beginning it is tricking them to think why of all the punishments in the world, why you would use them to dig holes. I also enjoy this book as it changes from crime and punishment (as the months pass by) to redemption and finding the truth behind why they have to dig holes. My favourite character is Zero (that's only his nickname). I like him because at the start he may seem very quiet and barely speaks to anyone, but he just has a reserved character. I would recommend this to people who love to wait in anticipation!

Spitfires - Lily - Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K Rowling. I like this book because it is exciting, and it gives a lot of detail on how the characters are feeling and it also gives detail on the characters surroundings.  My favourite character is Albus Potter-Weasley because he is one of the bravest characters. I would recommend this book for people from the age of nine and up. Also, for people who like adventure books.

Defiants -.Lamont - Black and British by David Olusoga. This book is surprising as it teaches you all about black history and all the things that you probably wouldn't have known already if you hadn't read this book.  It is about an unseen history and how black people were treated in the 19th and 20th century. I recommend this book to all ages as everyone can learn this different culture.
