Quote of the week

"The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall." -Nelson Mandela

Important information

Late collections -  there has been a increase in children not being collected on time after school.  Please enure that you are always on time to collect your child.  If children are not collected by the end of the school day, then they will be put into After School Club temporarily with a £15 charge.

Please show respect for all the school community

We have received complaints from local residents that some parents/carers are parking on double yellow lines and in front of their driveways.  It is also very concerning to hear reports of litter being thrown from car windows into the neighbouring streets.

Please DO NOT do any of the above, for the families and the local residents. Neither is respectful to others, nor a good example to the children.

Parent Governor elections - update

We're delighted to report that we have had 5 parents come forward as potential candidates. The paperwork is being finalised with the individuals' biographies, which will be emailed to every parent/carer shortly.  Due to covid restrictions, this will be carried out electronically, but paper copies will be available if you struggle with technical access. Once received, please read the instructions and place your vote (one per parent, not one per household).

Reporting absences

We have automated absence lines that you can use first thing in the morning to report your child being absent. Please call the school number, pressing 1 for Sketty Road children and 2 for Kimberley Gardens, stating the child's full name, class and reason for absence.

Breakfast & After school club

The online registration form for booking BASC in the Summer term will be sent out to parents/carers shortly.  Spaces are limited due to year group bubbles and staff/child ratios, so please ensure you complete and return the form as soon as possible.

End of financial year/ParentPay accounts to be clear

It’s our financial year end on 31st March 2021. Please ensure that your ParentPay account is topped up with no debts before the end of term next week. If you are struggling with payments, please contact the school so that we can discuss this and try to support you. Thank you.

International Day of Maths

On Friday the 12th March, it was the International Day of Maths.  To celebrate we focused on shape and the pupils took part in a shape scavenger hunt.  Pupils really enjoyed exploring the school (without crossing bubbles, of course) and we were amazed by just how many were found.  The results of the competition were:

Kimberley Gardens Year Group Winners:  Reception

Class winners:  Daffodil

Sketty Road Year Group Winners:  Year 5

Class Winners:  Thoth

Year group winners have won 15 minutes of free time and the class winners will receive some fun books based on a mathematical theme.  Well done to everyone for making it so successful!

Year 3 - Anglo-Saxons and Vikings

In Year 3 we have been learning about the Anglo Saxons and the Vikings. In writing over the last two weeks the children have written amazing third person narratives about the Battle of Ashdown.  They even did some role play and formed a shield wall. This week, we continue to write about Alfred the Great, focussing on his reign of Wessex and losing the land to the Vikings 2 years after the Battle of Ashdown.

      The Big Pedal

Spring is well on its way and it's time to dust off those bikes and scooters ready for the George Spicer Big Pedal.

The Big Pedal is a national event where schools up and down the country will be encouraging pupils to cycle to school and takes place the week of the 25th April.  Each year group will be given an opportunity to cycle or scooter (if they have one) safely on the playground.  Further details to follow.

In the meantime, over the Easter holidays, give your bike some TLC.  Check the tyres and brakes are in good working order ready for this event as well as making sure your child has a correctly fitting helmet.

You can also get in some practice on our School Street. Our Sketty Road School Street is an ideal space for a bit of extra cycling or scootering before and after school.  Please be mindful of pedestrians.

If you go for a bike ride over the Easter holidays please share with us any photographs - we would love to see them.
