School Census Day – Thursday 21st May

Please help support our school.

We kindly ask parents and carers to consider choosing a school meal for their child on Thursday 21st May, even if they usually bring a packed lunch.

Every school meal taken on this day helps us secure the maximum funding for our school—funding that directly supports resources and opportunities for all pupils.

To make the day extra special, we have created a special menu for pupils to enjoy.

Thank you for your continued support.

Walk to School Week Monday 18th-Friday 22nd May.

Reception

This week, we have been reading the book And Tango Makes Three by Justin Richardson. The children have enjoyed learning all about penguins and their habitats, while comparing them to other animals commonly seen at the zoo.

They have taken part in a variety of arts and crafts activities inspired by our topic and have especially loved exploring our new Arctic role-play area in the classroom. The role-play has encouraged lots of imaginative play, conversations, and curiosity about animals and cold environments.

Year 1

This week, Year 1 took part in a fascinating, hands‑on science session as part of their learning about what makes a fish, a fish. The children examined a real fish up close and used their observational skills to identify key features such as gills, fins, scales, eyes, a mouth, and a tail.

They were especially excited to touch and feel the different parts of the fish, helping them build confidence with scientific vocabulary and deepening their understanding of how animals are suited to their habitats. This sensory experience sparked lots of curiosity and thoughtful discussion.

We are incredibly proud of how engaged and enthusiastic the children were throughout the activity.

Year 2

Over the last two weeks, Year 2 have started a new Art topic inspired by the sea and waves. First, we created paintings of waves using different hues of blue. The following week, we made collage sculptures of waves, creating 3D forms using strips of paper. This week, we will be adding crests to the waves by curling strips of paper and attaching them to our sculptures.

In Writing, we are continuing our work based on the book Lizzy and the Cloud. In the story, Lizzy buys a cloud from a cloud seller in the park and takes him home, naming him Milo. The children wrote imaginative adverts with illustrations for the different varieties of clouds on offer, using commands, questions and statements.

Year 3

Year 3: Writing about Tea.

In Writing, we have been writing a non-chronological report about tea. After researching a range of facts about tea, the Year 3 children displayed their findings in creative ways. They organised information into clear sections, used headings and subheadings, and chose effective ways to present their work. The class showed excellent effort in selecting key vocabulary and presenting their ideas neatly. This activity helped to strengthen their research, writing and presentation skills, while building confidence in sharing factual information with others.

Year 4

In History, we are learning about Christianity in the three Empires. This week we learned about King Ezana and how his tutor, Frumentius, became the Bishop of Aksum.

Year 5

As part of Mental Health Week, Year 5 took part in a live online workout with Joe Wicks. The children were reminded that moving our bodies can boost our mood, build resilience and support our mental wellbeing. This links to UNCRC Article 24 (the right to health) and Article 31 (the right to play and relax), as well as Global Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being. The children showed fantastic energy and enthusiasm throughout the session and enjoyed taking time to look after both their physical and mental health.

In History, Year 5 continued their learning about Arabia and Early Islam by exploring what life was like in Arabia before Muhammad. The children listened carefully to stories about clans, tribes, trade, oases and the Year of the Elephant. They then worked collaboratively in groups to create thoughtful freeze frames to represent different aspects of life before Muhammad. The children demonstrated excellent teamwork and creativity during the lesson.

Year 6

Year 6 have shown remarkable resilience this week during SATs week. We are incredibly proud of the sensible, mature attitude the children demonstrated throughout the tests. They approached each day calmly, supported one another brilliantly, and most importantly, every child tried their very best – which is all we could ask for.

Alongside their hard work in the classroom, Year 6 have also enjoyed making the most of the fleeting sunshine during our striking and fielding PE unit. Taking our rounders lessons onto the field has given the children more space and the opportunity for some impressive big hits! The sessions have been full of fun, and the children have continued to show respectful and sensible behaviour throughout.

On Thursday, excitement began to build as we started preparations for our end-of-year performance: The Lion King! Auditions are underway, the class dance is already being learned, and enthusiasm is high as the children begin bringing the production to life. We cannot wait to see it all start to come together over the coming weeks.
