Year 1

Willow Class thoroughly enjoyed Thursday when the beach came to Kimberley Gardens. They enjoyed time in the paddling pools, building sandcastles, grooming donkeys, watching a Punch and Judy show and finishing off the day with an ice cream. Thank you Mrs Christou for arranging a spectacular day for Year 1.

Year 2

This week in year 2, we have continued with our Dodo project. We focussed on mixing different shades of brown, black and grey for the feathers of the Dodo and using our paintbrushes to create texture.

We extended the pattern of the Dodo's feathers using the paintbrush techniques we had used in our sketch books.

Year 3

This week year 3 have been looking at Picasso’s cubist art work. They created a range of sketches, paintings and collages to represent his style. It was lovely to see the children so enthused by Picasso’s art.

Year 4

Last week, Year 4 had their Sports Day. Organised in their colour teams, each group took part in 8 different activities, including: javelin, relay and football dribble. Some children even put their names forward to take part in team races. Fun was had by all, and it was lovely to see the children encouraging each other!

Year 5

Sports Day

Year 5 had a brilliant afternoon on Friday. The children took part in 8 events and then watched the individual races and relays at the end of the afternoon. All children showed great teamwork and sportsmanship and should be very proud of themselves.

Computing

This week, Year 5 have been using the iPads to create code. We have been looking at using loops and forever coding blocks to create animations. We also had a go at creating musical instruments by drawing and creating our own sprites and then recording sounds which we later turned into code.

Year 6

Oh Tuesday, Year 6 were visited by The Happy Puzzle Company. We worked in groups to solve a variety of puzzles that required skill and teamwork. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day!

To continue Year Six’s week of fun, we visited Jump In on Wednesday. We had lots of fun jumping around and all came back a little rosy faced. Even the teachers were a little short of breath.

United against Racism

Lancaster and Defiants class were inspired, this week, to write letters to Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka after hearing of the disgusting remarks thrown towards them. These three men bravely stood up for the nation in the final of Euro 2020. They did not score a penalty, however the bravery it takes to stand up under that amount of pressure is admirable. We hope our letters show them how much love there is out there in the world for them and that the hate was sent by the minority.

Edible Gardens

Oscar from Daffodil and Nicholas from Apache have been busy planting salad this inset day.  Doesn't it look delicious? Well done boys!

MYME Stress and Sleep workshops

My Young Mind Enfield, a pilot NHS funded service that is offering support to CYP, parents and schools in Enfield, is offering two introductory workshops for parents: ‘Supporting my child with Sleep’ and ‘Supporting my child with their Stress’

 Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is for all parents of primary and secondary school aged children who want to learn various tools to support their child with anxiety and stress difficulties.

What does the workshop offer?

This is an introductory workshop that aims to provide an overview of anxiety or stress concerns, and initial ideas to support parents in developing skills and strategies that can be used to help their child manage their sleep routine or stress. As it's an introductory workshop, we will touch on general themes, but won't cover all situations or experiences. The workshops are interactive, and parents will receive resources, further reading recommendations and signposting that they may find useful after the session and if any further concerns. We recognise that parents are the experts of themselves and their children through experience, and that professionals within My Young Mind Enfield have expertise through training. The aim of the workshops is for parents and professionals to bring their expertise together and provide information, ideas and resources.

What are the dates for the workshops?

Sleep – Tuesday 20 July 10:00am – 11:30am

Stress - Wednesday 21 July 13:00pm – 14:30pm

The workshops will be delivered by two Children Wellbeing Practitioners from My Young Mind Enfield via Microsoft Teams. A Microsoft teams account is not required to join the workshops. Please see posters below for the link to purchase a ticket for the events.

Children’s Recommendations

Reception

Primrose – Bea – Splat the Cat by Rob Scotton – I like when Splat wouldn’t get out of bed when he was scared about going to school. Then he realised school wasn’t that bad. I really like Splat the Cat.

Daffodil – Aneisa – Big Yellow Digger by Julia Jarman – There are dinosaur bones and they did a big whole. The children rush home to play.

Bluebell – Jaffar – Spiderman by Marvel Comics – I like when Spiderman and Iron Man combine. Superheros save the world and when I grow up I am going to save the world.

Snowdrop – Kyra – I’m Not (Very) Afraid of the Dark by Anna Milbourne – It is about the scary darkness. My favourite page is when you can’t see the footprints and it is silly. Sometimes I would like to get a flash light and see the stars.

Year 1

Elm – Noah - Dragons vs Dinosaurs by Helen Baugh - I like how they use magic to change into different costumes. The fierce dragon costume is my favourite one they change into. I like other books from this author, but this is my favourite one

Oak – Alice – Goldilocks and the Three Bears by Clare Fennell – I like it because it has Goldilocks in it. The 3 bears are happy because they were going outside. It has Goldilocks in it and she at the porridge.

Willow – Casper – Chapatti Moon by Pippa Goodhart – I like this book because I found it funny when the chapatti fell down the hill.

Ash – Emma and Amyra - Max the Brave by Ed Vere. I like it because it is so funny! The mouse tricked the cat, he was very clever.

Year 2

Sparrow - Laurel – Just Josie and the Lucky Number by Emily Gale – Josie was jealous of Zak because he was showing off his dog. MY favourite character is Lily because she preservers with learning to say 7. Year 2 should read it because it teaches you not to show off like Zak and try your best like Lily.

Owl – Kaylan – Bumble Bear by Nadia Shireen – I like this book because it has a good ending. My favourite part is when he goes back to school. People should read this book because it is a fun book to read.

Robin – Amelia – Ruby’s Worry by Tom Percival – I love this book because it has people helping each other and people being kind. My favourite character is Ruby because she loves going outdoors like me! You should read this book if you want to learn how to help yourself and help other people.

Woodpecker – Taylor – Captain Underpants and the Attack of the Talking Toilets by Dav Pilkey – I like this because it is very funny and I really enjoyed it. My favourite character is Captain Underpants because he pulls pranks. You should read this if you would like to go to a new world.

Year 3

Navajo- Christopher - Marcus Rashford, You are my Champion - It is very inspiring and gives me confidence, you learn all about his childhood and how he became such an excellent footballer. Packed full of stories of Rashford's life.

Year 5

Ra - Elena - Holly Santa Paws Saves Christmas by Daisy Meadows - I like the book because at Christmas time I read it and it gives me the Christmas spirit! Lilly is my favourite character because she is very brave and is never afraid to say what she thinks. I think anyone who is interested in dogs and Christmas would like this book!

Year 6

Hurricanes - Zion - Middle School Princess by  Meg Cabot - I enjoyed reading this book, because it has adventure and action, as well as an aspect of fantasy. It is filled with excitement and fun events, but also with danger. My favourite character is Olivia because she is fun and has a hidden past. She thinks about herself as being an average girl, however, she later discovers more about her personality and character. She learns to love herself for who she is. I recommend this book to children that like action and fantasy, and age wise around 7 to 9 years.
