Disrespectful parking around school sites

Again, unfortunately, we have had complaints from local residents about parents parking across their driveways and in disabled parking spaces.

Kimberley Gardens (the road) is a no parking zone for residents permits only, so please refrain from parking there. You cannot ask a resident to wait while you park in this road to collect your children.  Please be considerate of our local residents and follow parking rules and legislation.

Important: Mental health crisis information

Due to a significant increase in children & young adults presenting at A&E with mental health issues, CAMHS are urgently advising all professionals, teachers and parents/carers to contact the Mental Health Crisis Line on 0800 151 0023 in the first instance.

The switchboard will direct calls to the Enfield CAMHS SAFE team (9-5 on work days) and an out of hours service at other times, where calls will be directed to a North Central London CAMHS professional.  It is really important that this is done, so that good advice is received from an experienced CAMHS professional to plan the next steps.

School Streets update - ceasing from September 2021

We are giving notice that from September 2021, School Streets will not be continuing next term.  We are limited by the size of the street and number of roads that need to be covered; the lack of people resources; limited support from the council and more frequently our staff and volunteers are receiving abuse from angry and upset drivers, sometimes even our parents.

We ask that you remind your children now that they will need to be aware of their safety on and around Sketty Road areas in preparation for next term. This is not a decision that we've taken lightly and for the majority, it's been a successful project. Thank you to all those who have supported us.

Reception Class

Obby visited Reception last week to teach us some circus skills! We all enjoyed learning some plate spinning and juggling with flower sticks. Everyone worked so hard to master the skills in such a short time. We hope to see Obby soon as he commented on the exceptional behaviour and can’t wait to visit again! Well done Reception!

George in Primrose has been growing! He’s very proud of his strawberries!

Year 1

Year 1 harvest their produce from the edible garden project this week. The children cut the lettuce and washed it.  The children delivered this to the kitchen to make a salad for lunch for all the children.

They enjoyed watering the seeds every day and watching the plants grow.

Well done Year 1.

Year 2

This week, Year 2 children have been using the laptops and iPads. They have been practising the use of a programme called Scratch where children can create interactive stories, games and animations. They have been creating patterns and moving their animations.

Year 3

This week the children have been writing a persuasive letter to the Roman Senate. They have taken on the role of Titus, a famous emperor. They enjoyed discussing why gladiator fights should continue.

Year 4

This week in Year 4, we have been designing an electronic game. Initially, we researched existing games and incorporated the elements we liked most. We made sure to use our rulers to be accurate. The classes are excited to make their first prototype in upcoming weeks. We also learnt about the newly improved decking area, each day our ambassadors will choose children to enjoy the sensory garden. The children agreed that they needed to show respect, to make sure others could enjoy it too.

Year 5

Olivia F from Thoth class and Suzanna F from Anubis class have been busy making these excellent models of Ancient Egyptian Gods and Goddesses and characters from our writing.  Well done girls!

Year 6

History - WW2 (Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings)

This week in Year 6, for our History lesson, we had a look at effects of the atomic bombs that were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. We discussed how these immeasurably powerful bombs left the two Japanese cities in total devastation and how the biggest war the world had ever seen, come to an end.

We looked at some of the pros and cons of the atomic bombings and ordered them by importance. In pairs we shared our ideas with the rest of the class at the end to discuss our ideas giving reasons for our ordering.

Miss Grant’s Reading Challenge

This week’s reading challenge is to read your favourite book! Here are the reception teachers reading receptions favourite books this term.

Send any photos of you reading your favourite books to primrose@georgespcier.enfield.sch.uk

Children’s Recommendations

Reception

Primrose – Isaiah – The Peter Rabbit Club by Beatrix Potter – I like it because it is funny and they always have adventures. I like when the villains chase Peter Rabbit and then Peter Rabbit’s friends help him. My favourite part is where it tells you to make a secret hide out.

Daffodil – Demir – Humphrey’s Bedtime by Sally Hunter – I like it when daddy comes home and when he jumps on the bed.

Bluebell – Mateo – Could a Crocodile Play Basketball? By Camilla de la Bedoyere – The crocodiles eat stones to grind up the food. The crocodile’s scales is nearly as strong as a knight. My favourite part is when crocodile is sleeping, he gets out of bed and then goes in the bath to sleep.

Snowdrop – Sanisha – Humpty Dumpty by Steven Holmes – I love to read this book with my mummy. I like when the egg rolls on the floor and when the guards help the egg and put him back on the wall.

Year 1

Willow – Maciej – The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg – I really like the people who are in the story. I like that the story has trains.

Elm – Olivia and Owen – Shoo! By Michael Rosen – I like the farm animals. The cat is my favourite character. It is about being kind to your friends.

Oak – Joshua – The Story of Gigantosaurus by  Templar Books – I like the story, it makes me feel happy. This is my favourite book because the little dinosaur gets eaten. My favourite character is Gigantosaurus.

Ash –  Zia and Maebelle – The Tiger Who Came to Tea by Edith Kerr – I like it when the tiger ate everything. I liked the story because he drank all the tea and water. I liked the story when they went to eat dinner at the café.

Year 2

Sparrow – Olivia – Anisha the Accidental Detective by Serena Patel – Anisha’s aunty and uncle are getting married but her uncle is kidnapped! My favourite character is Anisha because she is smart and loves detective work and so do I! You will love this book because it is a mysterious adventure with fun parts too. I loved trying to figure out some of the clues.

Owl – Hasan – Zog by Julia Donaldson – My favourite part is when Zog gets the golden star. My favourite character is Zog. You will love it because it is funny and teaches you that you learn from your mistakes.

Robin – Aleena – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K Rowling – I love this book because and I get to discover more things. My favourite character is Harry because he is brave and honest. You should read this book because your mind gets to go into a different world.

Woodpecker - Lennox - Stitch Head by Guy Bass - This is my favourite book because it takes you on many different adventures. It is a spooky story where a human is made by a mad professor. The evil villain is clever and charming. If you read this book, it will take you on an emotional rollercoaster.

Year 3

Sioux - Susannah -  Murder at the Museum by Lena Jones. I like this book because I like the characters in the book such as Agatha Oddly who is the detective. This book packed with drama. Agatha and her friend went to an abandoned tube station and were confronted by a strange man who seemed suspicious. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good crime drama or mystery.

Year 4

Theseus - Dogman and Catkid by Dav Pilkey - I like that the book is adventurous and based on superhero's trying to fight a massive taco called Eden! The book is humorous but has a bit of an emotional ending. I like that it is like a comic and book combined because I love reading comics. I would definitely recommend this book!

Year 5

Ra - Leo - Last Kids on Earth by Max Brallier - I like the book because it is full of adventure and it made me explore in my garden and do things that I read in the book.

Jack is my favourite character because he is always looking out for his friends and he is very helpful. I think anyone who is into adventure or action would like this - it is a book based on zombie apocalypse.

Year 6

Hurricanes – Nyla - Shrinking Voilet by Lou Kuenzler - I like this book because it felt like the book was so real. This is a children's book and it's about a girl who wants a dog, but she shrinks when she is nervous. This then ends up affecting her quite a lot throughout the book. As you read this book you will become so intrigued and interested in the characters and how the storyline is shaped in relation to them. My favourite character is Bunny the young wife. She is very glam, classy and shows off strong character. She is also funny, yet she portrays as an ultimate character in this book. It is just also wholesome and there is so many surprises so, this is definitely a good book to read.

Miss Spillman's Esafety tips

Loot boxes within games is essentially a game of chance and over 70% of the popular games that children and young people play contain loot boxes.

In an interesting and unexpected development EA, the developer of the hugely popular Fifa range of games, now lets players see what is in the loot boxes before you buy them. Loot boxes are always an interesting discussion to have with children, particularly in relation to how much they spend. Do they refer to it as gambling? Do they see Fifa Points, V-Bucks, Robux etc. as real money? You could use this new information as a conversation starter.
