George Spicer Newsletter - 21st July 2023

Message from Mr Spong

Well it is hard to believe that another school year is done!  In assembly this morning I got the children to reflect over the year and tell me their best bits – there were so many! Then I asked them to think of what they themselves had achieved – there were so many!  Finally, I asked them to think about the improvements they had made – yes, you’ve guessed it – there were so many!  As I myself reflect back over the year, the obvious choices would be our Ofsted outcome and the results in statutory assessments in all age groups, which again make us one of the best learning institutions in Enfield.  However, from the seat that I type this from I can see my ‘Wow Wall’ in my Office, once again filled with work and I think about all the performances our children have had the self-confidence to take part in; these are my proudest moments of the year.

All that remains for me to do is wish you and your families a wonderful break together.  For those leaving us for good – remember to take you #SpicerSpirit with you and share it around, good luck in the next part of your journeys.  If you are returning, then I look forward to seeing you all on Monday 4th September.

Reception Class

What a fantastic year we have had in Reception. We have learnt so much! From counting to adding and beyond, to all of our new phonics, writing our names and now, lots of sentences. We have had many exciting trips and visitors. Our favourites were the Knights, Teach Rex and our winter walk. We have learnt how to be at school and are well versed in the 4 Be's!

The children have really enjoyed this year, this is what they had to say:

'I like doing the writing, I can do my letters now' Hari

'I love the book corner, it has lots of books in there and I can read them!' Clemmie

'We got to tickle the dinosaurs!' Kendrick

'I learnt about Diwali, there was the man with 10 heads, I never seen someone with 10 heads' Eden

The children have made lovely progress this year and it has been a pleasure to get them started on their school journey. We wish them the very best of luck in Year 1!

Year 1

This week the Year 1 children have been busy moulding their own frog and lilypad using clay. They decided to make a frog as they really enjoyed the "Reptiles & Amphibians" topic and thought this would be a fun way to remember their learning and fun year in Year 1! Later in the week we will be painting our frogs.

The Year One team would like to thank the children for a fantastic year. We wish you a happy, healthy summer and every success in Year 2.

Year 2

In our last week of Year 2, the pupils have been making papier-mâché masks (and getting very messy!)  They worked very well together, showing just how much they have matured over the year.  The animal masks look amazing!    The masks are all of endangered animals to raise awareness, so humans remember to care for them and stop them from becoming extinct.  The whole of the Year 2 team staff want to say a massive thank you to all the pupils for making our year so much fun.  Have a great summer.

Year 3

This week Year 3 have been enjoying the last few days of the Summer term! They will soon enter Year 4! Time flies! In preparation for Year 4, the children have been creating an All About Me booklet containing information about what they enjoy doing in their spare time, what they are looking forward to, a letter to their teacher, and a self-portrait of themselves. The children have been superstars this year are really developing! They are very much looking forward to being role models to the younger ones come September!

Year 4

As part of our learning in D&T, Year 4 designed a healthy, nutritious pizza, considering all of the key food groups. We then made pizzas, mixing and rolling the dough out into a thin base, before grating cheese and adding our toppings of choice. We were reliably told that the pizzas were 'delicious' when they were eaten at home!

Year 5

This week, the children took on the challenge of creating a detailed layered print. As always, they did not disappoint!  Well done you wonderful bunch for giving your all in Year 5. We are very proud of the wonderful resilient children you have become. Good luck to you all in Year 6, we know you will continue to shine!

Year 6

Year 6 Sports Day!

Our Sports Day was fantastic. We had tremendous fun with the warm-ups. We smashed the main activities. We ran our races and our team spirit was in full effect. Well done to the parents that took on the might of the Year 6 Teachers and actually won! Well done to us all.

The Year 6s have finally come to the end of their primary school experience and will be venturing to secondary school in September. Each and every one of the pupils have excelled in everything they have done this year. Well done for a fantastic year and good luck in your next learning experience. We will miss you. You are brilliant!
