Reception Class

Wow! We had a super exciting week. Teach Rex came to visit us and we met some fantastic creatures, our first encounter was with 'Jam' the giant T-Rex. We learnt about the T-rex's incredible hunting skills; the T-Rex had a great sense of smell which it used to sniff out its prey. We then practised this by blind-folding the dinosaur and seeing if he could find the chicken we had hidden. The T-Rex also had excellent hearing; we tried to fool the dinosaur by sneaking round him. Even Mrs Howard tried to trick him!

Later on in our classroom's we met the dinosaur babies and learnt where dinosaurs came from. Dinosaurs are similar to reptiles and birds; they hatch from eggs. We found out about different parts of the dinosaur such as the horns, spikes, spines and scales and what these could have been useful for. We would like to thank Teach Rex for our inspiring learning experience.

Year 1

On Tuesday Year 1 had a very exciting trip today to Walton-On-The-Naze. After lots of singing on the coaches, we arrived in Walton. After a week of the weather forecasting to be rain and wind, we felt super lucky to have sunshine all day long! We made sandcastles, played many games, went looking for seashells and even buried some of our teachers in the sand! For some of us, our favourite part was paddling our feet in the sea.  Lots of memories were created which will be remembered for a very long time.

A special shut-out to all the parent helpers who came along to make our day achievable. Thank you!

Year 2

This week has been an exciting week for Year 2  as we have had the opportunity to visit Sketty Road site. We have had several computing sessions and enjoyed playing on the KS2 climbing frame.  As part of computing we have learned how to login, type words using the home row keys and practised changing the font of the text we have typed onto a Word document.

Also, the poet Cheryl Moskovitz came to support Year 2 with their writing.  She was so inspiring, and helped the pupils to write and perform poetry that highlights the problems faced by endangered animals.

Year 3

This week in PSHE, Year 3 have been thinking about changes they will make next year and how this will affect them. We discussed together what they are looking forward to when they move up to their next class. The children then looked at several questions relating to changes with their talk partners before attempting to answer them on slips of paper. They came up with some great responses!

Year 4

In Science, Year 4 have been looking at different animal teeth to see if there are differences between carnivore and herbivores’ teeth. We asked questions such as ‘How many teeth do carnivores and herbivores have?’ and ‘Why are herbivores’ teeth all flat?’. We looked at the skulls to see if we could infer any of the answers before using the iPads to do research of our own.

Year 5

Year 5 had a real treat on Wednesday afternoon when they attended the Year 6 Matilda production. It was incredible! We felt like we had been transported to the West End! Well done to all involved! Year 5 thoroughly enjoyed the show!

This week, Year 5 had a visit to Kingsmead where they took part in an art project based on the work of sculptor Anthony Gormley, who’s work explores the existence of man in relation to the world. The children made small clay figures in the style of Gormleys field artwork. Their work will be displayed at Kingmead next year.

Year 6

Year 6 - Matilda Production

The hard work and effort put into perfecting our roles for the Matilda Production was seen in full effect this week. The Year 6 pupils have shown how dedication, teamwork and resilience can come together to make one of the best performances George Spicer has ever seen. Each child played their part to perfection to entertain the school and their parents. Ask anyone in the George Spicer community about the Matilda Production and you would most likely get a response that is similar to ‘Amazing!’

Well done. You should all be very proud of yourselves.

Lost Property

The school has more than 100 items of lost property.  All labelled/named items that have been passed to the office to return to the children but there were still 61 unlabelled jumpers in Sketty Road alone.

The lost property in Sketty Road is located in Reception and outside the office at Kimberley Gardens.

The items in the pictures are not uniform and are also unlabelled.  Please contact your parent rep with details of your item, child’s name and class and these will be returned.

Any items unclaimed by the end of lunchtime on the last date of term will be disposed of by reuse, recycle or rubbish. All lost property will be placed in the playground by the office on the last day of term as your very final opportunity to claim.
