Reception Class

Oh no, what has happened to the classroom! The children arrived on Monday morning to see the classroom completely trashed. We were all very shocked. Naiyah-Rose said 'They crashed through the door!'. We spent the morning looking at clues and deciding who or what could have caused such a mess. The children figured out that it must have been a dinosaur because they had left big eggs in all of the classrooms. We checked the CCTV and saw a big Tyrannosaurus Rex in the playground.

The children have been enthralled by our new topic and are really excited to start learning all about dinosaurs. We have been writing about the mess in the classroom, making predictions and describing what we saw. Ollie said 'I think it was a T-Rex because they have super big claws and really big foot prints!'.

Year 1

Last week in Year 1 as part of our Geography learning we looked at the 7 continents of the world. We created our own map of the world and used our knowledge to identify where each continent is. We then had the challenge of finding where England is on the map! Next week we will be looking at the oceans around the globe.

Year 2

This week in Year 2 we have continued to practise for our end of year performance – the pupils are doing an amazing job at learning their lines and the songs sound lovely.  As part of our Pride week activities, the pupils recreated the flag.  They used block printing techniques and a variety of fruit and vegetables to create different shapes that represent and celebrate our differences.  During our Writing sessions, we are still learning about the Thylacine (also known as Tazmanian Tiger) and have written about what it eats and how they sadly became extinct in 1936 in Australia and nearby countries.  The pupils used some lovely expanded noun phrases to add description to their work. In Maths, the pupils have been learning about capacity and how to measure and compare volumes.

Year 3

In Year 3, we have been learning about the life-cycle of a plant. At the beginning of our lesson, we observed the two plants that we had placed in different areas of our classrooms from the week before. We noticed that the first plant that had been getting sunlight, water and air appeared bright and alive however, the second one that we had put in the cupboard had leaves that were yellowing.

Then, we identified the different parts of a flower and discussed each one as a class. We drew and labelled a diagram in our books making sure we used scientific language to label and explain each part of a plant. Below is an example of our work!

Year 4

The children who remained at school completed an Ancient Greek D & T project making Modroc Minotaur Masks.

They designed their Minotaur masks, decided on group jobs (leader, maker, helper), created the mask and then painted them.

The children were engaged throughout the whole project and loved their final designs.

Year 5

What a busy week we have had in Year 5.  In Geography, we have been carrying out some fieldwork.  The children were set the task of finding the best location to go birdwatching in Enfield.  After using Digi-maps to research possible locations, the children chose Enfield town park, mainly because it had a variety of habitats and was within walking distance from the school.

On Wednesday afternoon, each class went to the locations outlined above and recorded the types and amounts of birds they found on a tally chart.  In class the day before, we had talked to them about the factors that might impact the success of their fieldwork – both physical and human features.  For example, ‘The Rose Garden’ is located very close to a busy road. There was also a funfair located in the park on the day of our visit.  This helped the children to understand why, according to the RSPB, there is a declining population of birds in Enfield.

Next week, we will collate and analyse the information gathered and present our findings.  A huge thank you to all the parent helpers who came along on a very hot day – it is much appreciated.

Over the last couple of weeks, Year 5 have all taken part in a very special visit to the Nanak Darbar Gurdwara in Arnos Grove.   They were given such a warm welcome and were intrigued to learn more about Sikhism.  The children behaved so respectfully during our visit and were given a wealth of information by our incredible host and her father, some of which we have shared below.

“When you enter a Gurdwara, you take off your shoes and cover your head  as a sign of respect.”

““Everyone sits on the floor because they believe everyone is equal.”

“We learnt that any building that holds the book Guru Granth Sahib is known as Gurdwara.”

“We learnt that a Langar is a feature in every Gurdwara and is there to support people who need food. Anyone can visit the Langar.”

Year 6

Year 6 – ICT - Big Data

The Year 6 have been looking at how data is stored  and used in everyday life. First they looked at barcodes and QR codes as a form of storing data. They researched a topic and found some interesting facts about it. These interesting facts would form the answers to questions they wrote on a Word document.

They generated a QR code for each answer and pasted the QR code next to the relevant question. They had to access so many computing skills during this lesson-they managed them all really well.
