Promoting British Values


The DfE has reinforced the need “to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.”

The government set out its definition of British values in the 2011 Prevent Strategy, and these values have been reiterated by the Prime Minister.  At George Spicer, these values are reinforced regularly and in the following ways;

Recently we based our focus week on 'United We Stand', which centered on developing understanding of other religions, both in this country and around the world. Each year group explored dance through their focus religion and country.




As a school we promote a set of non-negotiable experiences for our children which they can have during their time at George Spicer Primary School. These are:


  • Play a tuned musical instrument
  • Theatre visit out or in
  • Participate in community event 
  • Take part in a performance
  • Take part in a competition to represent school
  • Watch a sporting event
  • Outdoor experience
  • Residential experience
  • Involvement in a charitable event
  • Visit a gallery/ art exhibition
  • Visit a museum
  • Experience live music
  • Cross-phase experience
  • Experience of other cultures
